EP Review: A Swift Farewell – Hollow Threats (Self Released)
A Swift Farewell, the Australian emo pop punk quartet will release their debut EP, ‘Hollow Threats’ on June 6th, 2025. Each track tells its own story of struggle — from depression and self-worth to betrayal and coming out — culminating in a body of work that’s as cathartic as it is confronting.

It has been wonderful to get to know this band over the past couple of months as they’ve geared up to this release by dropping impactful single after impactful single. So impressive has their output been, that returning to those tracks on this EP is extremely welcome.
It’s one of those tracks, Silence, that arrives first, following a touching intro called I Never Wanted This… Where A Swift Farewell show off their ambient side, utilising electronica to craft something really pretty. It’s all about Silence though, and with heightened drama, plenty of angsty emo melodies, pop likability, and enough punk rock bounce to get even the blackest heart pounding, A Swift Farewell deliver a harmonised banger here. I really liked it back in February when it was first reviewed in a Single Slam, and I like it even more now.
The same goes for The Haunting, a track that features the uber talented Amariah of Future Static and proves to be one hell of an inspired collaboration. One of the most energised efforts, the feet will tap, the fingers will rap, the hips will shake, and the head will be well and truly nodding along to this one.
ion and belief, A Swift Farewell are committed to delivering stylish variations on alternative sounds that are thoroughly addictive. Especially when a chorus as strong as the one in Just Breathe hits with the kind of force that leaves you feeling breathless. Or when Hold Me Down sees A Swift Farewell nail the classic emo vibe of yesteryear, adding their own vibrant modern touch with rockier and punkier flashes.
Here’s the thing though, as emotionally intriguing, captivating, and exciting as the record has been to this point, there may be nothing as impactful as the finale of Homeless. Not just because of the more melodic approach, the melancholic tone, or the pensive tempo increases, but because of the lyrics and how they are delivered. It’s a very special track, with so many brilliant touches (I love the brief use of synth, for example), and stands out on an EP filled with standout moments.
A Swift Farewell have arrived.
