Album Review: Eyes – Spinner (Prosthetic Records)

Hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark, Eyes will make their Prosthetic debut with their third full length album, titled ‘Spinner’. It is out on April 25th, 2025.

A uniquely challenging record, one that focuses, musically, on metallised hardcore with evolved noise rock aspects. Often abrasive, always intense, and coming with interesting inspirations, Spinner leaves a mark.

Beginning with an anime-inspired introduction called OP1 (with a suitably retro feel too), Eyes set up the story that they want to tell across the record’s ten tracks in clever fashion. A loose story told through the lens of a fictional early 80’s anime episode that introduces a cast of various characters that are based on situations, states of mind and personality traits of vocalist, Victor Kaas.

Which might sound a bit too niche for some, except the album is focused on trauma, a way to process it and leave it behind. It is how a track like Better, a minute and one second long track, can have such impact. The message is on point and comes through so strongly, that you’re left thinking about it afterwards. Eyes delivering nasty noise and hyperactive raw intensity here.

Things start to get a bit more expansive with The Captain and Deflating Rooms, albeit with just as much noise. The difference maker? Hardcore groove that makes both these tracks more infectious, even if they come with so much intensity. Let it be known that you can move to this album, but it’s the kind of movement that leaves you bruised and aching afterwards.

Eyes have locked in on this kind of scathing ferocity and make it the focal point of the entire album, delivering everything with the kind of ion that ends up being infectious, regardless of feverish intentions. Yet, what makes the album so much more is the fact that there is variety in structures, tempos, song length, and overall delivery. This is how something as measured as Beelzebub, The Hypocrite can sit so comfortably alongside something as chaotic as Save Face on a Regular Basis. Both are excellent in their own way, and sound cohesive when looking at the album as a whole, but have their own fresh vibe.

There’s a clear determination from Eyes to make this album a more accessible listen, while not losing that ‘in your face’ feel that defined their first release. Worry not, it’s still uncouth, just not egregiously so. Enjoy the serrated sound of Moving Day for the Overton Window, the stompy aggression of Clown, and the blood-pumping, sweat-inducing, banger that is Money Mouth.

Satisfying hardcore-infused metal, capped off with the longest, most elaborate, and expressive listen of all, the title track. Groovy and garish, there’s no better showcase of their developed musical palette then this absolute lovable beast of a head banger and body shaker.
