Album Review: Hegeroth – Perfidia (Self Released)

Perfidia, the third album from Hegeroth, delivers diversity and unconventional solutions while being faithful to the second wave of black metal. The Polish black metallers will release Perfidia on November 19th 2020.

On the one hand, Hegeroth deliver an album that is black metal to the core and hits all the right notes for fans of the raw and rough horror-laden sound. On the other hand, they delve into darker territories (somehow) by littering the 8 tracks with atmosphere. Stuff that enhances the twisted experience and ensures this band won’t be relegated to the ‘heard it all before’ pile.

Although that’s not to suggest what we get across Perfidia is unique by any stretch of the imagination. However, it more than makes for the familiarity of the blazing and fiery noise by just being damn enjoyable.

The manic energy that this band convey through the medium of their black metal is one thing but the way in which they skilfully transition into perturbing peculiarities, poignant effects and more is truly what impresses. The absolute horror show that is The Wind Embraces Me and the utter inferno of madness that is Sacrificed are just two tracks that leap out of the speakers to bury their way into the brain. However, there really isn’t a track that is found lacking here.

Hegeroth are a name that the black metal community need to start paying a ton more attention too.
