Album Review: Jizzy Pearl’s Love/Hate – Punk Rock Fiesta! (Kenyon Records)

Helmed by Jizzy Pearl, the legendary force in the world of rock ‘n’ roll, Love/Hate roars back with Punk Rock Fiesta!, set for release on March 1st, 2025, via Kenyon Records.

Uncomplicated rock and roll with punk spirit and plenty of vigour, Punk Rock Fiesta! is every bit the Jizzy Pearl’s Love/Hate sound and style that fans have grown to love over countless years and releases. Decades have ed since the debut was released (Blackout in the Red Room – 1990), but you’d never know it based off the eight tracks here. Not only does Jizzy Pearl’s vocals sound powerful, but the entire band makeup turns back the clock to yesteryear, without sounding too dated.

It’s not just for the rockers of an older age though. Music like this has an everlasting appeal, and Punk Rock Fiesta! has plenty of relevancy. Least of all because of the punk vein that runs through it. It is a dynamic listen, where the focus is on delivering the best of the best, just like the old days.

There are plenty of high points, but notably, one comes right at the start. It’s You’re Gonna Burn and it rocks hard. There’s a ton of energy in this one, as is there in the fast-paced ‘punk ‘n’ roll’ hits that are Eye for an Eye and The Wrath of Love. Bet you anything your foot is tapping along, and your head is bobbing up and down. It’s infectious, and that’s a good thing. Especially as even when they take their foot of the gas a bit, it still results in something memorable, such as Over the Edge.

Though it is fair to say that it probably doesn’t get punkier than Didya Think You Could Fall in Love? The second half of the album coming with some seriously old-school liveliness. Which probably isn’t too much of a surprise to listeners, even if it is enjoyable.

Do you know what’s unexpected though? The moodier tone of Can’t Be Wrong. Jizzy Pearl’s Love/Hate showing off a bit of grunge flair here.

Finally, to cap off a succinct listen, it’s the groovy riff-driven head banger that I’ll Be Your Shadow, and the punchy heart-racing high-powered rock anthem that is Time to Take Your Pill. Proving that life is always that little bit sweeter when Jizzy Pearl’s Love/Hate is about.
