Album Review: Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy – The Rotted Plinth Of Sachiel (Stillbirth Records)

Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy is a band that spans oceans and continents, bringing together the cataclysmic creativity and invidious imaginations of Australia based vocalist Jesse Agiomamitis and Quebecois multi-instrumentalist Caleb Simard. Inspired in part by the controversial Japanese mecha anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion and its pantheon of angelic invaders, the music of Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy exists beyond the brink of even the most extreme music tastes.

Following on from last year’s terrorizing EP, Adoration of Decaying Innocence, The Rotted Plinth Of Sachiel will be unleashed on April 9th 2021 by Stillbirth Records.

I think it’s safe to say that most people reading this review have some idea of what extreme metal should sound like. It is, by very definition, extreme. An extra step from standard death/black/grind metal, which in itself is already pretty savage most of the time. These days it seems to be the trend for those that call themselves an extreme band to try and push the boundaries of heaviness to… well, the extreme.

Stand aside all you poseur bands – the game is over and the winner for the most extreme metal sound has arrived. What the actual fuck is going on here?

Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (that name) have done everything possible, inhumanly possible, to make their new album the heaviest thing you’re ever going to hear. We’re talking an absurd and flabbergasting level of filth. Nine tracks and 26 minutes later, very few people will be any clearer as to what they just heard.

You might think it’s a joke but it’s not. If it was, it wouldn’t be quite so enjoyable to listen too. From the moment the tome is dropped from a great height onto skulls (the title track) to the moment the brain begins to leak out of the ears (Profane Psalms Carved into the Palms of God), everyone will have a perplexed smile on their face. What was this? The sound of Satan defecating? The sound of angelic beings having their insides torn from them? The sound of Satan defecating in those wounds? Extreme words but fitting for an album that embodies what it is to sound extreme.

Whatever messed up level of brutality you can think of, you can apply to Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy’s The Rotted Plinth of Sachiel. Let your imagination go wild, the immorality is on par with this release.
