Album Review: Siksided – Leave No Stone Unturned (Self Released)
Siksided hail from Trieste, Italy and Leave No Stone Unturned is their debut album. A nine-track fusion of metal, progressive heaviness and post-rock. The album was released on March 5th 2018.
Gripping groove that has a mischievous amount of rhythmic catchiness to it, one built around a rocking riffs, melody & grungy vocals. There’s a hell of a lot of vision within opener Disposable Livings & the following Leaf. A double header that gets things started delightfully.
It’s Fragments that really stands out though. A rip-roaring track that has all the heaviness of a metal track but also the build of a post-rock effort too. It’s an early contender for track of the album as it showcases the progressiveness that Siksided have without compromising the captivating style they have.
The middle of the album doesn’t drop in quality. Charon builds to a wonderful heavy crescendo, New Savior has some nice melody broken up with ionate flashes of aggression and Blatant Quiet lifts the mind, body & soul up.
Siksided have crafted a smart sounding progressive record here. One that delivers on a number of fronts. Not just a hard-hitting metal album but one with plenty of rock melody, stimulating riffs & striking hooks. The final two tracks, Desert and Defaced ensure this won’t be an album that you forget anytime soon.
