Album Review: Sulphurous – The Black Mouth of Sepulchre (Dark Descent Records/Me Saco Un Ojo Records/Desiccated Productions)
Copenhagen’s Sulphurous are set to return with another offering of abyssal death metal – The Black Mouth of Sepulchre. The band’s second full-length is being released as a collaborative effort by Dark Descent Records (CD and digital), Me Saco Un Ojo Records (vinyl) and Desiccated Productions (cassette). It will be released on the 22nd of October 2021.
A set of death metal tomes, Sulphurous bring the crushing and suffocating darkness alongside aggression and heaviness here on The Black Mouth of Sepulchre. Death metal twisted and gnarled at the hands of savage intentions.
From an overwhelming doomier blackened tempo, to fast-paced death metal energy and every bit of rough, forsaken and cold sound in between. The Black Mouth of Sepulchre is horrifically concentrated. Assaulting the mind, wracking the body and exposing the soul. Death metal at its most primal but cleverly refined. It’s coarse by design, any brief snippet of melody can’t be trusted and there’s the constant feeling of threat coming from the speakers.
Who doesn’t love music that feels like it might leave you spasming in a corner through the sheer heaviness of it? That’s The Black Mouth of Sepulchre and it’s one of the darkest, evilest and most savage listens of 2021.
It’s a no-brainer that if your taste is to the extreme than this is a must listen. Each track is a hefty effort but never over-stays their welcome. Likewise with the album overall, the six tracks screaming by in a maelstrom of disparaging and disturbing noise.
