Album Review: Twilight’s Embrace – Penance (Self Released)
Out on the 23rd February 2018, melodic black/death/Doom metal band, Twilight’s Embrace will release their new EP entitled ‘Penance’.
Three original tracks & one cover of a Paradise Lost song completes a thumping & visceral listen. One that has wonderous moments of uplifting melody to ease the age of blood-letting blackness.
Dying Earth’s doom-tinged riffs, guttural vocals & soaring melodies is a great start. An effort that is exhausting in its meaningfulness.
Curtain Call then brings a sublime fuzzy chugging rhythm that drifts effortlessly into higher & sharper guitar riffing. At 7 minutes long it manages to keep things sounding so exciting & fresh. As good as the opener was, this is the real deal. It’s then followed by the final original song, the title track, Penance.
A faster beat bleeds into gloriously morose melody, clean singing before bringing the heavy back with force. A track that moves at a great pace, never losing momentum & ensuring its 9 minute run feels half the length. Another absolutely stellar track from a band that have created magic here. This isn’t lost on a great cover of the classic Paradise Lost song, It’s Too Late.
A brilliant EP. There are very little words too add except…listen to this!
