Album Review: Why Patterns – Regurgitorium (Human Worth)

Human Worth present noise punk trio Why Patterns’ debut album, ‘Regurgitorium’. Released on March 18th, 2022. Featuring of Warren Schoenbright, Wren, Deleted Narrative and recorded by Wayne Adams (Petbrick / Big Lad).

If there’s one thing we know about Human Worth now, it’s that if they have picked up a release, chances are it’s going to be weird, polarising and pretty damn awesome.

Guess what?

Noise? Punk? Rock? Nonsense? Yes, to all and then some. There’s no real way to describe Regurgitorium beyond saying that you need to hear the warped chaos for yourself to decide if you like it or not. Though, if you have an ear for noise-punk already, you’ll certainly get along with it better than say, a person more likely to press play on the latest Adele release.

Though, that’s not to suggest an Adele fan couldn’t enjoy this. You see, Why Patterns might be making a mess but it’s a measured and purposeful mess and that makes it somewhat more accessible. That, and the punky undertone, means the spasms that it dishes out feel focused. Which immediately makes it more palatable overall.

Just as there’s no dancing around the simple fact that Why Patterns might be a bit insane. Contrast something like Bachelor Machine, which has wacked out rhythm, with the ridiculous ramblings of Bone Apple Teeth. Or the super-bassy ringing rockiness of Railway Spine with the esoteric drivel that is Unstimmung. You’re constantly left wrong-footed. Maybe you’ll love that or maybe you’ll hate it, but you’ll have an opinion none the less.

This is Regurgitorium and it is uniquely captivating.
