Band Interview: Despite the Fallen
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with melodic hard rockers/metal band, Despite the Fallen.
1. How did you get started as a band?
It was definitely a product of intention, yet looking back it seemed like it just kind of happened. I set out to establish something, and luckily just had met everyone before from our previous bands performing together.
2. How would you describe your sound?
It’s hard to slap a label on us without being super vague but we our music really focuses on a lot of energy and dynamics balance out with as much melody as we can conjure.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
We all come from very different influences and that will definitely be reflected in our material. We don’t want to alarm the fans that we’ve established by straying too far from what they are used to, but we also don’t want them to think that what we’ve done previously is all that we have to offer.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
This a hard topic to completely nail but I personally believe as with all things it has its balance of good and bad. The availibility of it all is amazing compared to indie bands trying to mail get their physical copies in record stores in the past. However, every level of convenience always comes as a devil’s deal. Unfortunately it is stripping the profits from the artists in an alarming rate and it’s heart breaking to see something you’ve worked incredibly hard on get essentially taken away. I honestly try not to think about it too much and just consider myself lucky that people can find and listen to our music. At the end of the day it was never about the money, just about getting our art out into the world, and we are incredibly grateful for that. But I can’t shrug off the issue and throw all the other artists under the bus. That’s why it is incredibly important more than ever to go to shows and buy merch to help the bands that you care about.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I am an avid reader, I try to study all things I can get my hands on just for better understanding of this world we live in. Other than that just all normal things such as gaming, cooking, and the most important is just being a dad.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We are currently working on our next release and we definitely plan to that with touring. We are all pretty excited about it.
