Christmas Horror Short Review: Mistletoe (2022)
Sitting under the mistletoe, one last candle burning low, All the sleepy dancers gone, just one candle burning on, Shadows lurking everywhere: Someone came, and kissed me there.
Written and directed by Craig-James Moncur, Mistletoe focuses on a drunk man as he staggers down the road, clearly having had way too much to drink at a festive party. He stops to urinate, when a woman’s laugh from a nearby dark alley gets his attention.
His staggers over to the alley, stopping to notice a sprig of mistletoe above the entrance, but sees nothing else. That is until he is startled by the sudden appearance of a woman behind him.
They’re both standing under the mistletoe, and you know what that means! Though this will be a kiss the man will end up regretting leaning in for.
Imaginative and twisted, Mistletoe does a tremendous job of delivering festive frights in a very short amount of time. The brisk pace doesn’t harm its reveal either, as how that is done, is delightfully dark. A massive amount of credit must be given to the visual effects department too, as what is revealed looks excellent.
This is a festive horror short to make you wary of ending up under the mistletoe in future. Check it out yourself below, it’s well worth it.
