Christmas Horror Short Review: The Little Helpers (2022)

Written and directed by Kent Lamm, The Little Helpers is a dark festive horror short that stars Bailey Wilson, Toni Figueredo, and Jesse Laier.

Three women inside a cabin, where the freezing wind and snow blows hard outside, are making items at worktables. It seems as though they are hostages, as one suggests to another that they work together to ‘stop him’.

Who is him? It’s the jolly fat man, or at least a version of him that no-one would want coming down their chimney. These are Santa’s little helpers and he isn’t about to let any of them escape.

The Little Helpers is a clever horror short that combines the surreal and fantastical nature of Christmas with familiar horror tropes. On the one hand, this could be just a psychotic individual dressed as Santa keeping these women captives, but on the other, this could be the ‘real thing’ and he just happens to be evil.

A great location (you can really feel the cold), great acting, and the constant sense of impending doom makes this a very enjoyable horror short. One that is highly imaginative and memorable.
