EP Review: Chronepsis – Weight of Eternity (Self Released)
Emerging New Jersey melodic technical death metal act Chronepsis will release their debut EP, ‘Weight of Eternity’ on April 4th, 2025.

Technical death metal crafted from a collection of stories engulfed in horror, conquest, vengeance, and transformation, Weight of Eternity is a debut EP that commands the attention. Erupting in a cacophony of noisy heaviness that immediately showcases Chronepsis’ intent and prowess. They’re focused on delivering elaborate brutality with complex layers and have the skills to do so.
Evident by the almighty drum-driven head banger that is Envenomed Grey Matter, the eviscerating guitar work that comes from Lacerating the Vultures Tongue, and the guttural howls of Desperation of the Sacred Realm’s vocals. The first half of the EP delivers a commanding performance that will have most well and truly hooked by what Chronepsis has to offer.
Hell, such is the power on show, that even naysayers of tech-death may find their heads turned by what they hear. Especially as the second half doesn’t disappoint either and Chronepsis get weirder and wilder via the energetic Well Fed Hexahedron. However, if you want to hear the sound of ugly and violent death-engrossed heaviness, then there’s nothing quite as savage sounding as Beheading of the Neolithic Crowns.
Finally, and creatively, it’s Orb of the Deathless Watcher and the words that comes to mind are ‘vast’ and ‘intricate’. Not only is this track unforgivingly heavy and relentlessly hectic, but it is a journey of a track with impressive peaks and valleys. It leaves the strongest of impressions on an EP that is quite potent overall.
