EP Review: Demolyn – Slay the Godhead (Self Released)
Demolyn, a solo black and death metal project based in Gothenburg, Sweden, is back with ‘Slay the Godhead’. The new EP is the follow up to Demolyn’s debut album, and it will be released on February 7th, 2025.
With an expanded sonic palette and a powerful drummer in Fabio Alessandrini (Annihilator, Bonfire, Enforcer), Demolyn brings forth the darkness with a brash and explosive showcase of heavy via I Shall Transcend. Where black metal is transformed by esoteric death infusions and there’s a groove to the rhythm. A kickass opener that raises the bar for the Demolyn sound overall.
The rawness is still there, but it feels more purposeful now, and no further proof is needed than the fiery heaviness of Into the Casket. A track that shares so much in common with the old-school black metal sound, but a track that also refuses to be defined by it. It, and the following Warwhores, are powerful showcases of Demolyn’s creativity. More than capable of causing outbreaks of wild head banging, but with layers of heavy that keep you coming back for more.
With Misery, Rain Over Me, Demolyn takes this thinking and pushes it to the limit though. Not just an explosive listen, but one with harmony. It’s one of the most expressive tracks of all, and with that, comes a dynamism that captures the imagination. So much so, that it’s a shame to see the EP end, but end it must. Closing out with the title track and one that can best be described as a few minutes of metal mania and mayhem. Blackened to the core.
The music on this EP is a clear step-up for Demolyn and the future has never looked brighter, even if it comes soaked in black and death vibes.
