EP Review: Telesterion – An Ear of Grain in Silence Reaped (Self Released)

Based on the Ancient Greek Eleusinian Mysteries, An Ear of Grain in Silence Reaped is the new EP from post-metal/stone-gaze band, Telesterion. Due for release on June 16th, 2022.

 

 

If there is one major takeaway about this release it is that Telesterion are an ambitious bunch and really push the level of dynamism this sort of music has to great heights. A four-track EP that is riddled with creativity. Slow moving, post and gaze headiness, the atmosphere holds some melody, which helps make the experience more palatable. However, this a weighty listen regardless.

There’s an exploratory sense to the music. As though Telesterion are experimenting with their own sonic capabilities. They are voyagers wandering mysterious and ancient paths. Something that makes the concept all the more interesting. The way in which they produce such a combination of heavy, melodic and atmospheric music makes you want to know more about the tales the EP is based on.

You can tell this is a bit of a starting point for Telesterion and there’s plenty of room for expansion. Not just with the concept but with their musical direction and creative detail. As a place to start for listeners though, An Ear of Grain in Silence Reaped is a slice of drama and metal that really grabs the attention.
