Game Review: Ultimate Disc (Mobile – Free to Play)
Supersonic Studios Ltd refer to their latest free to play offering as ‘fun frisbee game’ and it is. If you could actually play it without being interrupted by an ad. Yes, Ultimate Disc is another one of these games and it is infuriating.
A shame because in between the ad assault, Ultimate Disc is a fun frisbee game. This review is for version 1.1.9.
The aim is throw your frisbee past AI controlled characters that move on set paths. Get your frisbee from player to player and reach the goal to complete the level. As you go on, the AI gets smarter and more difficult making your throws all the more complex.
Simple one-touch gameplay, Ultimate Disc is the perfect time waster of a game provided you disconnect your phone from the internet. Do that and you’ll be able to play ad-free but unable to take advantage of the ad related bonuses that come up. A fair trade off considering how spammy the game is.
With ‘tournaments’ to take part in (all against AI characters) and the ever-increasing challenge, Ultimate Disc has plenty of longevity in it. Not only that, you can earn money in game which is spent on unlocking outfits and new colours for your faceless character. Not exactly stuff to get excited about but a welcome inclusion for a free to play game.
Alas, for all its fun factor and replay value it all comes back to the ads.
Few people will able to put up with the extreme amount that the developer has put into their game. Perhaps the ultimate example is when you fail to get your frisbee past an AI player. Here, you will be given the option to carry on if you watch an ad. A fair trade, watch an ad and continue or choose not too and start again. That is not the issue.
The issue is that should you choose to not continue, you’ll get hit with an ad anyway.
Absolutely infuriating and guaranteeing this is a game most will delete after only a few minutes of playing.
