Interview: Dead Defined (Written – 2025)

We’re back chatting with industrial rock/pop solo project, Dead Defined, finding out what they’ve been up to since we last spoke!

1. Hello! Welcome back. It’s been a little while, so first things first, how are you and have there been any significant changes since we last spoke?

Hey, thanks for having me back. I’m doing well mentally, emotionally, and creatively. A lot has shifted over the past year. I stepped away from performing and public life for a bit to focus on school, personal growth, and getting back in touch with why I started creating music in the first place.

2. So, what’s new? What’s keeping you busy this time around? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

Right now, my main focus is a brand-new single called Better off Alone. It’s the first track I’ve released since 2022, and it feels like a true reflection of where I’m at today. No gimmick, just honest heavy rock music that hits hard and says what it needs to say. There’s also a visual element in the works for the single, and I’ve been back in the studio collaborating with some of Toronto’s best to shape what comes next.

3. Describe what fans/listeners can expect.

Expect something raw and aggressive, but grounded. Better off Alone captures that heated, make-or-break moment in a relationship when the truth finally breaks through the noise. The lyrics are direct, the riffs are heavy, and the energy is unapologetic. It’s Dead Defined at its most honest.

4. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you to see it come to fruition?

This song came together slowly. I wasn’t in a rush, I needed to reconnect with what I wanted to say. Working with one of Toronto’s top producers helped bring out the exact sound I was chasing. Seeing it all come to life, knowing I’m releasing music again because I want to, not because I have to means everything.

5. Sum up what this latest development says about you and where you find yourself at this moment in time?

It says I’ve grown. I’m no longer chasing trends or trying to meet expectations. I’m creating because it’s part of who I am. This track isn’t a comeback, it’s a continuation of something that never really stopped. I’m just doing it on my own .

6. Has the time since we last spoke been a mostly positive period and has there been any one thing that stands out as being good?

Yes, definitely. Taking a step back gave me perspective. Reconnecting with music after losing the love for it was huge. Honestly, just having the peace of mind to create again. that stands out more than anything.

7. How about something that has challenged you since we last spoke? Has there been any particular thing that tested you, and if so, how did you overcome it?

Losing direction with music was without a doubt the biggest challenge I faced. It wasn’t about writer’s block or the industry, this was deeper. A lot of personal life changes hit at once, and it forced me to take a step back and re-evaluate who I was outside of the music. For a while, I honestly didn’t even feel like picking up a guitar or sitting in the studio. The ion I had it just wasn’t there, and that scared me.

Instead of pushing through something that didn’t feel authentic, I shifted my focus completely. Starting school in the Aviation field gave me structure and a sense of purpose outside of music. Spending time with my dogs grounded me in the moment and helped me reconnect with the simple things that bring peace.

Eventually, without pressure or expectation, the love for writing found its way back. I started writing again not for streams or social media content, but because it helped me process everything I’d been carrying. That process of rediscovery wasn’t quick, but it was honest. Now, every song I work on feels more true to who I am than ever before.

8. What is a realistic goal you’d like to achieve over the next 12 months?

To keep releasing music that feels real. I’d like to drop another single or two, maybe shoot a video. But above all, I want to stay consistent, stay healthy, and keep building Dead Defined as a reflection of where I’m at, no filters, just the truth.
