Born of Osiris – Through Shadows

Progressive metalcore pioneers Born of Osiris have announced their forthcoming album Through Shadows, out Friday 11th July (via Sumerian Records). The full-length is the band’s newest body of work following up their critically acclaimed 2021 album Angel or Alien. In celebration of the news, the quartet has shared the titular track ‘Through Shadows’ and the official music video.

When asked about the inspiration behind the song, the band commented:

‘Through Shadows’ is a reflection of the human experience—both the quiet struggles and the heavy storms we each endure. It’s about confronting the darkness with the understanding that without shadow, there is no light to shine through. When all feels lost, we’re left with a choice: face demise, or defend our existence. This song is our call to choose the light, even in our darkest moments.

One of the most eclectic metalcore bands in the world, when Born of Osiris have new music on offer, we all pay attention, and the progressive masterminds return with a frenetic blast of savagely tinged heaviness, starry melody, a brazenly infectious chorus, and an extravagant number of twists and turns to the ‘core’ formula. It is brilliant, but of course it is, it is Born of Osiris after all.

The Dirty Nil – Spider Dream

Ontario’s The Dirty Nil have shared a new song called ‘Spider Dream’, and it’s a hazy detour into nostalgia and the surreal peace of nightmares. The single is taken from ‘The Lash’, the band’s album out July 25th via Dine Alone Records & Civilians.

About ‘Spider Dream’ vocalist/guitarist Luke Bentham explains:

I woke up one morning, completely refreshed by a nightmare. It was a strange feeling but enough to animate a song. I had also just watched the Beatles documentary that the Lord of the Rings fella made, so I was inspired to use more jangly chords than I usually do. It was a strange one to bring to the band but the arrangement came together instantly and it never changed from the first time we played it.

A very imaginative track with an inherent weirdness that proves to be highly addictive, The Dirty Nil do a great job of capturing a dreamy state of mind and keep things mellow (mostly) throughout. Inspiration can come from the most unusual of places, and it has resulted in a delightful piece of music that resonates nicely. Check it out here.

Adept – Heaven

Swedish metalcore trailblazers Adept are back – and louder than ever. After nearly nine years of silence, the band mark their long-awaited return with the pummelling and appropriately titled new single, ‘Heaven’.

Holy heck! Adept are back, and what a return it is. Back with a mighty modern sounding blast of metalcore intensity that ticks all the boxes for the genre, albeit with brash heavier bursts and brilliant moments of flair. Even now, Adept challenge themselves and create a variation on a familiar genre that stands out. It’s good to have them back. Check it out here.

Tallboy – Insomnia

Fast rising UK riff slingers, Tallboy, continue their swift incline with the release of their debut EP, House of Glass, which arrives on Friday 25th July. The northern alt-metallers have also dropped a spanking new single and video, ‘Insomnia’.

A hyperactive effort with explosive heaviness, ionate alternative rock infectiousness, and plenty of erratic effects, Tallboy’s new single is pretty cool. Especially as it does keep you on your toes, delivering a chorus you can hum along to, but also having bursts of abrasive noise throughout.

Fallujah – Step Through the Portal and Breathe

Progressive death metal masters Fallujah have released their third single, ‘Step Through the Portal and Breathe,’ from their highly anticipated new album, Xenotaph, due for release 13th June via Nuclear Blast Records.

Commenting on the new single, the band state:

‘Step Through the Portal and Breathe’ is classic heavy Fallujah with a few new elements. It’s nearly seven minutes of hard-hitting death metal with enough atmosphere to retain the unmistakeable sound we’ve been cultivating for over a decade. Founding guitarist Scott Carstairs shows off his flashiest playing yet, Kyle Schaefer showcases the heaviest sides of his vocal range, and new addition Sam Mooradian steals the show with his stunning guitar solo debut. This track is a great representation of our new album Xenotaph, a total ripper, and definitely not one to sleep on.

How great is this new album going to be? Based off the singles, we’re looking at a Fallujah classic and this latest effort is one hell of an emphatic exclamation mark on that statement. Not only does it see the band deliver sharpened savagery, moments of blunt force, and gobsmacking technical twists, but it has addictive rhythms and extravagant touches of melody that give it more cinematic value. They’re on fire at the moment and I can’t wait to hear the full album. Check it out here.

Avalanche – Down Under (Men at Work Cover)

Husband and wife fronted, international touring powerhouse Avalanche are back down under after touring Japan – their 3rd headline overseas tour and 14th headline tour – and have now released ’Down Under’, a rock and roll cover of the popular Men at Work staple and ‘unofficial anthem’ of Australia.

While they’re far from the first band to cover this song, even from a rock and roll angle, Avalanche do it in a way that just puts a silly smile on the face. As Australian as meat pie (I read this online –it’s a common Aussie saying, apparently), the song is delightfully catchy, and that’s before Avalanche infuse it with so much energy, groove, and head banging joy. Love it or hate it, the original that is, few will be able to deny the lure of this classy cover. Check it out here.

Shiva May Care – Liberation

Shiva May Care, the alternative rock ‘n’ roll band from Manchester, UK, have released their new single, ‘Liberation’. It comes from their EP, ‘Sound System Kaliyuga’ and sees the band wanting to:

Give a positive message, about breaking the chains of Karma and being the master of your own life, everybody deserves a chance to be happy.

An energised and catchy banger from Shiva May Care that happens to have likable alternative melody and a pop rock chorus that compels the body to move. It’s a track that bleeds positive vibes, and the band comfortably hold the attention all the way through it.

lowheaven – Chemical Pattern

Toronto post metal outfit lowheaven have announced their debut full-length album, ‘Ritual Decay’, due out on August 29th via their new label home MNRK Heavy. In advance of the record’s release, the band have also unveiled the first single and its accompanying video, ‘Chemical Pattern’.

Post metal with an energetic and chaotic edge, if there is one immediate takeaway from this track it is that lowheaven ooze ion and throw their all in everything. This single has plenty in common with noise rock, but as it goes on, it really develops into something else. Not only getting really heavy in places, but more melodic, which gives it a strong alternative flavour. On first listen, it’s compelling, but on multiple listens, it becomes something really special. Check it out here.

Incite – Dolores

Groove/thrash metal band Incite have released ‘Dolores,’ the third single from their highly anticipated album, ‘Savage New Times’, which is set to be released on August 15th, 2025, via Reigning Phoenix Music.

Frontman Richie Cavalera comments:

‘Dolores’ is the most boundary-pushing song we’ve ever made as a band. It’s shown us that we can push our sound into new areas while staying true to who we are and what we represent. It’s my personal favourite on this record as it relates to a childhood dream I had. It’s insane to see and feel it come alive.

With unexpected layers of horror, cinematically so, and featuring more progressive ideas, this is a fascinating track from Incite. Something that really does show that they have so much more to offer, especially from a more thoughtful and harmonious point of view. It’s pretty damn dramatic, but has a robust heavy thickness that makes it feel so much heftier.

Shadecrown – Tear-Blind

Finnish Viitasaari based melodic death/doom metal band Shadecrown is set to release their fourth studio album ‘0’ on July 25th 2025 via Inverse Records. The second single ‘Tear-Blind’ featuring Sheila Bernal on guest vocals and Vilma Peltokangas on Cello is out now.

The band comments single:

Tear-blind is the story of a man reaching the end of his life, wishing that his last days would not be filled with the sorrow and pain of his loved ones. His last wish is to try to enjoy the moments we share while he is still here.

Dark, deep, and devilish, while having layers of emotion throughout, this new single from Shadecrown is very cinematic. Featuring heightened melodic drama layered around a thick doom sound that quickly takes hold, and grips the mind tightly as it becomes heavier, developing into something with a melodeath flavour. It’s an epic, without an epic length. Check it out here.

Bleed Again – Obsession

Brighton metalcore outfit Bleed Again are here with their brand new single ‘Obsession’. The single is the first in a new era for Bleed Again as Bobby Didcott takes up guitar duties in the band.

For a little bit more on their new single, here is Bleed Again guitarist Sam Jones:

‘Obsession’ came about after wanting to further develop our sound following our last single Parasite. This one however was solely written to be punchy, catchy and bring the energy when we play it live! We want people touching the ceiling!

Meanwhile frontman James Dawson added his own thoughts on what good the track might be able to do for listeners:

‘Obsession’ to me is a perfect song to release after last years Parasite. It will be a great addition to our live set as we plan to get people off their feet with this one. Sam has done an amazing job crafting this new single before we came together and moulded it into the song it is today. We all have struggles in life, whether that be addictions or feelings in personal life that can take over us. Obsession is about that for me. Trying to find a way to get ed these things, even when it seems impossible. I hope that people gravitate towards the song and find their own meanings within the words. That could then maybe help someone? Thats always the goal.

Modern metalcore gold delivered with ion and power, Bleed Again introduce listeners to this new era with a fine example of their heavy intensity, extensive melodies, and experimental effects-driven ways. A straightforward anthem that brims with life, proving without a shadow of doubt that the future for this band is ever so bright. Check it out here.

Atlas : Empire – Happy as Lazarus

Progressive alternative rock band Atlas : Empire have released their new single ‘Happy as Lazarus’.

Says Steven Gillies (vocals & guitar):

‘Happy As Lazarus’ is our first single since 2023s Sophomore album, ‘Everything Is Temporary’, and it pushes our sound in a heavier & more electronic-infused direction.

We’ve introduced bass synths in place of bass guitar, pushed the electronic elements forward and dialled up the prominence of baritone guitar – all of which fuse together to create a darker, denser feel than a lot of our previous record. Thematically, ‘Happy As Lazarus’ examines humanity’s growing reliance on technology & simultaneous disconnection from what’s “real” – blissfully ignorant, spiralling towards oblivion.

A bright showcase of alternative rock given a thrilling fresh spin via progressive leanings and creative twists on melody, Atlas : Empire’s new single takes hold very quickly, letting the robust instrumental sound grip, while the vocals soothe. It’s really smile inducing music and intensely addictive.

Broken Earth – Rainmaker

Sydney nu-metalcore rising stars Broken Earth return with their hard-hitting new single ‘Rainmaker’. Reflecting on self-acceptance and personal transformation, the track invites listeners to confront their past and step into the future without fear.

Shares the band:

It’s about choosing to grow, to rise above self-doubt, and to navigate life’s challenges head-on. RAINMAKER continues the narrative from our previous singles—shedding old skin and embracing who we are becoming.

Continuing to make compelling music that takes a fresh and modern approach to nu-infused metal, Broken Earth return with an absolute banger and one of my personal favourite tracks of theirs to date. Not only is this track so damn anthemic, but it comes with plenty of heavy fire, and layers in melody exceptionally well. It’s Broken Earth with accessibility, but also Broken Earth with metallised power pouring out of them. Check it out here.

Buckcherry – Set it Free

Buckcherry have premiered ‘Set It Free’, the third single/video from their eleventh studio album ‘Roar Like Thunder’, scheduled for release on 13th June via Earache Records. ‘Set It Free’ follows the release of previous singles ‘Roar Like Thunder’ and ‘Come On’.

Another solid banger from Buckcherry, one that keeps things simple, but so damn groovy. They’re a band so easy to like, and all because they create songs like this. Anthemic and relatable, with tons of musical value, and liable to capture the imagination of so many people with varied tastes in music. That’s Buckcherry, and this new single is them at their rocking best.
