Single Slam: Orthodox, Our Nameless Boy, Seas, Starry, Kaonashi, and Rouge Awakening!
Today’s single slam features Orthodox, Our Nameless Boy, Seas, Starry, Kaonashi, and Rouge Awakening. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
Orthodox – Keep Your Blessings
Orthodox have released their new single and video ‘Keep Your Blessings’, taken from new album ‘A Door Left Open’, out 6th June via Century Media Records.
Drummer Mike White says:
‘Keep Your Blessings’ has been one of my favourites since beginning the demo process for ‘A Door Left Open’. The song has a lot of interesting elements that really complement the video itself. The video grew from an early cover art concept: a car full of photos and things stolen from homes. This quickly evolved into a full story of a man who has lost the ability to do what he loves most due to old age. Errick Easterday was thankfully super interested in the concept and it evolved from there.
I can’t wait to hear this album in full as based off the singles heard so far, it’s going to be immense, and this latest offering just confirms that. Orthodox are sounding so damn mean here, and the stompy intensity is in place from the start, not letting up for even a second. The choppy, technical rhythm giving way to a blistering chorus, as the vocals scream bloody murder. It’s a heart racing listen.
Our Nameless Boy – Dress Rehearsal
Hot on the heels of powerful singles ‘Leaving Party’ and ‘Mr Right’, Bristol’s favourite quiet/loud emo-inspired four-piece Our Nameless Boy have unveiled their latest offering, ‘Dress Rehearsal’, which is out now.
A powerful listen that combines moody emo style melody with noisier bursts of rock and comes layered with a strong sense of atmosphere. There’s a delicate approach here, at least at first, as the track does become more robustly rocked up as it goes on, and that creates some strong feelings overall. It is, as a whole, very likable. Check it out here.
Seas, Starry – Globalists
Seas, Starry are a rock music ensemble active since 2010, whose work occupies the intersection of shoegaze, post-rock, post-punk, drone, and ambient genres. They have released a new single called ‘Globalists’.
A unique band who create unique music, Seas, Starry are back with a delightfully experimental listen. An instrumental with infectious melodies, memorable beats, and a fair amount of odd moments. It flies by in a blur of eccentricities, addictive to the end. Check it out here.
Rogue Awakening – Remain Untamed
Emerging Brit hard hitters, Rogue Awakening charge onwards with their explosive new single and video, ‘Remain Untamed’, which drops everywhere on Tuesday 13th May.
The more time I spend in the company of Rogue Awakening, the more I love them, and while I can’t say that this is my favourite track so far, it’s a bloody damn fine one none the less. The groovy rock heaviness blended with the sultry powerful vocals is very infectious, but what makes this a particularly notable track is that it perfectly balances more disordered moments of rhythm with anthemic intensity. Hugely listenable, but with a more distinctly layered sound. Check it out here upon release (Tuesday May 13th 2025).
Kaonashi – Red Sink, Yellow Teeth
Hotly-tipped experimental metal group Kaonashi are excited to present their new single ‘Red Sink, Yellow Teeth’, the latest glimpse of their 6th June album I Want to Go Home., the brand new full-length (released via Equal Vision/Rude Records).
There are a lot of words that can describe this band and the experience of this song, but the one that might work the best to sum everything up is ‘unhinged’. Kaonashi don’t do traditional arrangements and even when they seem to slip into systematic styles, they do so in a way that sounds wholly unique to them. It’s baffling, but goodness, it is fascinating and the more times you hear it, the more impressive it becomes. They really are doing something different, and while that does mean it’s not going to be for everyone, a track like this does guarantee attention none the less.
