Single Slam: Ghost Bath, Moses, Royale Lynn, Heavensgate, and Black Label Society!

Today’s single slam features Ghost Bath, Moses, Royale Lynn, Heavensgate, and Black Label Society. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.

Ghost Bath – Rose Thorn Necklace

Depressive black metallers Ghost Bath have emerged from beyond the veil with their new album, ‘Rose Thorn Necklace’ which will be released on May 9th via Nuclear Blast Records. The first preview from the album comes in the form of the self-titled single. ‘Rose Thorn Necklace’.

Ghost Bath comments:

Rose Thorn Necklace is both beautiful and grotesque. It blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, exploring the contrast of something gorgeous and disgusting. I tried my best to not hold myself back – both musically and lyrically – and this is the result; depressive black metal with raw emotion, unique melodies, and textured synths.

Having set such a high bar for themselves with the Moonlover-Starmourner-Self Loather conceptual trilogy, it’s interesting to hear the new direction that the band is going in. One that keeps the melancholic aspects front and centre but leans more towards back metal than ever before. It’s a torturous listen in places, but that’s always welcome when it comes from Ghost Bath, even if it’s not the most memorable of experiences overall.

Moses – Skin

Alternative rockers Moses are back with their brand-new single, ‘Skin’. A track that is for anybody that has a never-ending love of any kind. ‘Skin’ is a pure poem that wears its heart on its sleeve, carrying an ever-burning torch for an old flame.

Their form has been impressive as of late, and this new track continues that with a very infectious alt rocker. One that has melodic grandeur that stands out as something a little more unique. It’s a cool listen, with the cherry on top being the choir vocals that crops up in places. Check it out here.

Royale Lynn – Battleground

Nashville-based artist Royale Lynn is disrupting the active rock scene with a unique genre-bending sound marked by fearless ambition and gutsy abandon. Her latest single, ‘Battleground’ chronicles the tumultuous experience of escaping a toxic relationship and emerging stronger and more resilient.

Royale Lynn shares:

Sometimes the best thing to do is let go and walk away…even when it’s hard. Love shouldn’t be a war zone. I hope this song gives strength to those who are scared to leave.

A powerful message delivered by an artist with conviction, not only is this new track from Royale Lynn likable, but it’s accessible too. The alternative rock instrumentals mesh well with her commanding vocal style, and even though the melodies aren’t the most imaginative, it’s a notably strong track overall.

Heavensgate – Oblivion

Melbourne metal outfit Heavensgate have been levelling up at an impressive rate, and now they announce their g to Pure Noise Records for the US, in collaboration with Greyscale Records for Australia and New Zealand. To celebrate, the band have released the new single ‘Oblivion’.

The future is looking brighter than ever for Heavensgate, and to celebrate their latest success, they’ve unleashed a banger of a track. One that spits and snarls with high-powered metalcore-infused intensity. It’s quite an aggressive listen that even starts to lean towards deathcore in places, and showcases a certain amount of technical sharpness. Check it out here.

Black Label Society – Lord Humungus

Black Label Society, the powerhouse of hard rock led by the legendary Zakk Wylde, has released their new single, ‘Lord Humungus’.

As familiar as ever with a clear nod to their history, this new Black Label Society sees the hard rock band stick to type. Big riffs, thick groove, smooth vocals, epic soloing, it’s all here, and then some. It’s pretty good!
