EP Review: Autumn Lies Buried – Mob Mentality (Exitus Stratagem Records)

‘Mob Mentality’ is the new EP from the US deathcore quintet Autumn Lies Buried. It is set for release on June 6th, 2025, through Exitus Strategum Records.

Combining rap vocals with traditional deathcore might not sound particularly compelling at first, it certainly didn’t excite me, but one listen to what Autumn Lies Buried has to offer and chances are, you’ll be enamoured. I certainly am, and it’s all because they deliver the savagery that we’ve come to expect from deathcore, but blend in moments of bouncy groove and rap vocals that don’t seem out of place in the slightest. In fact, in the case of a track like Blood Money, I really do get Bodycount vibes, albeit a bit less refined and leaning towards a much harsher sound overall.

Something that should be fairly obvious to anyone who presses play on the EP seeing as Strappado is the opener and it is a snarling, spitting, and foaming beast of a track. In fact, it’s quite ‘paint by numbers’ as far as deathcore goes. Thoroughly enjoyable, but not particularly remarkable, until the rapping starts.

It, alongside the destructive Guillotine and the dangerous Told Off with a Sawed Off, stands out. All because Autumn Lies Buried show off their creativity, speak their truth, and deliver everything with the kind of ion that can only come from people who are extremely pissed off.

Unsurprisingly, the EP ends in riotous fashion too, serrated and violent sounding, it’s Debt of Silence and there’s a hardcore underbelly here. It will leave you seeing stars.
