Album Review: JD Power Trio – Prison Perfect Continuous (Self Released)
The Gentlemen of Grunge, JD Power Trio, are back with a brand-new album, ‘Prison Perfect Continuous’, out on May 23rd, 2025.

Rocking hard, but delivering music with heart and soul, the infectiousness of JD Power Trio’s sound is not easily defined. Sure, at its core, it’s rock music and rock music with groove and a grungy flavour, but they’re a band who like to experiment. Infusing their music with alternative elements, the result is always compelling, and the record gets off to an addictive start with Place in the Sun.
Note the riffs, the thick groove, the smooth vocals, and the big chorus. JD Power Trio start their album off in memorable style, accessible, but with a moody vibe. It turns out to be them at their ‘simplest’, as the following track, Squabbles, really sees them stretch their experimental muscles.
A word like weird might seem hyperbole, but it fits here. It’s a little bit proggy, groovy, doomy, and even has a blistering guitar solo too. This, alongside the salacious sound of Into the Divine, where a touch of theatre makes it so much more compelling. The riffy and groovy body shaker that is Shot (the vocals are immense on this one), and the wacked out heavier stylishness of Holier.
While all the individual parts of JD Power Trio might be familiar, especially when you take eras into , but when put together the result is almost always distinctive.
It’s so easy to fall in love with this band, and right up to the end of this tight listen, they hold the attention. Even when they really lean into their melodic side as they do with the penultimate track, Duchess. A mood-altering, dramatic, and powerful listen, especially as the instruments ramp up the volume and the vocals soar time and time again.
It’s a personal favourite, but that could apply to just about everything here. JD Power Trio are a kickass band, and the exclamation point on that comes from the staggering finale of Ruby. JD Power Trio at their prettiest sounding but transforming the track as it goes on with fascinating progressive twists and turns. It’s a closing track befitting of an album this strong and all we can hope is that JD Power Trio see the success they deserve so they can continue to deliver amazing music like this.
