EP Review: Welsh Wolf – A Voyeur’s Dream (Self Released)

Los Angeles based rock musician Welsh Wolf (the alter-ego of Paul Freeman) will release a new EP titled ‘A Voyeur’s Dream’ on June 6th, 2025.

An immense talent with one hell of a resume (guitarist for James Blunt, written with greats like Meatloaf, Deane Carter and Gabe Dixon, signed by Clive Davis and toured with Roger Daltrey, Chris Cornell and Brandi Carlile, among others), Welsh Wolf’s new EP is immediately compelling. Almost guaranteed to be something special based on ability alone. Which might sound like hyperbole, but it doesn’t take long for this EP’s anthemic ways to show.

Kicking with the infectious melodic rock banger, When You Cry, the bar is set high as Welsh Wolf shows off such an accessible sound. Delivering gorgeous synth, smooth vocals that anyone can sing along too, and nailing the chorus. It’s brilliant, but it’s one of many brilliant efforts and Wreck’s peppier rhythm is just as anthemic. Alongside moody retro rock efforts like Follow the Fear and the smile-inducing melody-laced Anti-Social Butterfly. Welsh Wolf keeping things fun, light, and lovable with addictive track after addictive track.

An artist that genuinely understands how to make rock music accessible to all, even when getting a bit more experimental in places on the dramatic Scene of the Crime. The vocals are the star here, but again, Welsh Wolf shows off an extensive musical palette that is unbelievably addictive.

So much so that it’s sad to see the EP end, even if the pensive and heartfelt finale of The Promise is utterly delightful. As digestible as everything that came before, even though the emotion of the track might be a bit much for some.

What we have here is a must listen EP.
